It's been a while. I've done a lot since my last post. I went to Las Vegas to cover the mauling of Roy Horn of Siegfried and Roy and stayed there for five days. On my return, I sat in front of Children's Hospital in Dallas covering the historical surgery of the Egyptian twins, joined at the tops of their heads, being separated.
I'm trying to do more in radio and have secured part-time work at ABC Radio Networks here in Dallas. I'm voicing minute-thirty features that will be used in all the formats that the facility provides, which means I'll be heard on about a thousand radio stations around the country! In addition, I will serve as back-up host for the morning talk show on Sirius Stream 131, the Trucking Channel on the Sirius Satellite radio system for which ABC Radio Networks provides content.
While in Las Vegas, I provided "on-the-scene" reports on that morning talk show on the Trucking Channel, and also for the afternoon show on KVIL in Dallas.
It's Monday night as I write this. Yesterday, I hosted some Cub Scouts and showed them Amateur Radio (I'm KK5DON). They talked to other scouts around the country on my HF rig during the JOTA (Jamboree on the Air). I then let them talk to a fellow in Nuremberg, Germany (Albert) using my EchoLink software. Think of EchoLink as a VERY LONG mic cord to the radio! It connects me to radio repeaters around the world and then I'm on that repeater as if I was a local station. Yes, you need a license to do this.
